Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Sorry, poemless, but Mark Ames nails why the vast majority of Russians have no sympathy for Khodorkovsky ;-)  Or America lately, for that matter.

Selling military helicopters and kalashnikovs to Hugo Chavez and nuclear technology to Iran is a win-win for Russia.  First, it brings in large amounts of hard currency for an industry that still remains competitive on the world stage - and employs a huge number of Russian workers.  Second, both Venezuela and Iran are on Washington's sh*t list, so helping them (while at the same time furthering your own interests) is a no-brainer.

You must admit, it's preferable to that picture of Cheney up there...

You're right.  A glam photo of Dick does seem somewhat out of place there.

An antidote to scary Cheney pic:

Isn't that easier on the eyes?

Huh.  Putin's sacked the guy who led the prosecution against Khodorkovsky.  Odd.  He sure is doing a lot of house-cleaning lately.  What's up?  Just a show for the G8, or is he actually serious?  Only the shadow knows...
