Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.
The Spanish-American war was trumped up with "Remember the Maine" and led to the US taking over the Philippines.

Before that we took over Hawaii. We just didn't need to use any force since they had no military.

The gunboat diplomacy of the 19th and 20th centuries in Latin America were also unprovoked attacks. We were supporting the interests of private firms like United Fruit and using resistance of the local population as the excuse to attack.

One could make similar claims for the Mexican war which led to our taking over much of the land in the southwest.

Finally the Indian wars were all started by the US government.

We don't have a good record and it's nothing new.
