Being slightly older than you are I have the feeling than there has been a evolution on this subject since the 80's: ENArques are still responsible, and X are just taking profit from their good situation.
Not a lot of X in politics in the last 15 years, and a lot in big CAC 40 management. Public opinion has grasped it, I think

However you're right that taking profit is destroying credibility in the public opinion eye
