For the foodies in the audience:

I was very proud of myself this weekend for inventing a delicious little appetizer (and quickly developing a scary addiction to it.)  Goat cheese and nectarine bruschetta.  That's it.  Devilshly easy.  Toasted rustic bread with plain goat cheese, olive oil and sliced nectarines.  Simple and delicious, with a nice Spanish white wine.  

I'm wondering if I can subsist on this all summer...

I made not quite so interesting lentil soup yesterday.  For the price of a bag of lentils (not much) 2 carrots, an onion and a couple of stock cubes, I can feed myself for most of the week. And it is good for me.

needs meat ;) Also, real stock - I make huge batches of the stuff, reduce, and turn it into ice cubes. It's easy and fairly cheap since a lot of the meat part comes from scraps that I freeze after making things like roast chicken, oxtail, ossobucco, etc.

It's lovely with bacon pieces but I was reduced to eating the very last of all the leftovers in my flat.

Next time do this:

Forget the stock and simmer your lentils and veggies in a bit of water with some herbs.  Then drain and let them cool and toss them with olive oil, red wine vinegar and feta.  Very yummy hot weather lentil salad.
