Welcome, Valentin!  Yes, it does look complicated to begin with and takes some getting used to.  We have had quite a lot of discussion here as to how it can be improved.  I think you'll find it gets easier (and a lot more powerful in terms of what you can do here) as you get used to it.  It also works better in Firefox with the tribex extension (see update box on rhs) than it odes in Internet Explorer.

The main differences from Times online is that you can set your own agenda by writing your own diary, and discussions are threaded - that is to say comments aren't simply in one continuous string but indented to allow sub-conversations to take place.  It looks complicated to begin with but is really very simple.

The hardest bits are where you need to use some HTML to embed pictures, links or videos, but you can simply copy the code you need from the new user guide.  Why not have a go at publishing a more substantial diary which will provoke some discussion?  I know from your comments on Timesonline that you have plenty of ideas you can articulate...
