I am less certain.  Married heterosexual sex in those societies didn't particularly need to be consensual, and with polygamy, there may well have been little concern as to what the women did amongst themselves, provided virginity was no longer an issue.

I am sure that decision was very wise and effective in that regard.  Just think of all of the women saved from being corrupted by something a bunch of men suggested to them.
