Much like Jérôme has been arguing, I doubt this will be seen as an occasion to wean us off gas. Instead, fearmongering will lead any policy initiative that may result.
I would say that were dwindling fossil fuel reserves an official reason for a renewable energy policy, the event could be interpreted at the political level as a sign of further justification to march on.
