"AVE" stands for Alta Velocidad Española = "Spanish High Speed". However, even though this is a brand name, one painted on the trains & displayed on train boards, you won't find it in most of the Catalan media! Instead, they use TAV (for Tren d'Alta Velocitat = High-Speed Train) -- or the acronym identical to the French one, TGV (for Tren de Gran Velocitat = lit. Train of Great Speed).
I find this ridiculous, but wonder how our Catalonia-based readers think about it. *Lunatic*, n. One whose delusions are out of fashion.
