My Dutch classmates are saying "if Wilders becomes the prime minister, we're out!" and asking me whether Finland or Sweden would be nice.

If loons like Aznar and Berlusconi can get the mandate, so can Wilders. One day. But we're not there yet.

Yep, still living in Delft and spending most of my awake time in Den Haag.

And I'm not saying anything about Finland or Sweden to my classmates yet... first have to see how our very own extremist anti-islamist hysterical party does in the elections...

It's just that in my experience in Finland and Sweden we tend to stay in the center a lot, no matter what happens, and in the Netherlands the opinions can swing from one end to the other. You can have a SP election victory and then next election cycle will see the PVV as the winner. In Finland you have the three biggies: the Social Democrats, the Coalition Party and the Center Party and those three will always be on top and always be about even.

But, wasn't that just how the Netherlands looked until recently (recently, that is roughly until Pim Fortuyn appeared)? The PvdA, VVD and CDA being the respective members of the onetime close-to-center triumvirate?
