Ha, alas I referred to you Sir, but perhaps the good Cardinal would be more deserving of the comment.  Afterall, it appears he was a dedicated practicioner of intrigue and I can imagine that his memoires must reflect that.  I'll let you know my opinion once I've read them.  I see they are available here for download.

Yes, we have our share of intrigue in Washington, but nothing to compare with the 17th Century.
