Of these ex-leaders, I know Schröder also intervened in the EP campaign of his party, because he grew impatient with their timidity. Where the irony is: it is his Old Guard that is in power (Müntefering, Steinmeier), and anyone who'd have been able to lead a fresher campaign was discarded.
