I posted a link to a Deutsche Bank study a few weeks ago that noted that the countries that seemed to have had the smallest recession were either those with a large black economy (Greece, Italy, etc...) or those with a very small one (Scandinavia, Austria, France, but not Germany). Germany was put in between and thus had a bad recession...
