Côte d'Ivoire's President Laurent Gbagbo dissolved the country's government and electoral commission on Friday. Speaking on national television he called on Prime Minister Guillaume Soro to form a new government before next Monday evening. Voting in the country's presidential election, repeatedly postponed since 2005, was due to take place at the end of February or early March. Gbagbo's announcement was strongly criticised by by Niamkey Koffi of the PDCI (Parti démocratique de Côte d'Ivoire) who said the President had undone progress in the country's peace process and had "sawn off the branch on which he was sitting".
