It's much simpler than that, I think. Wind is Unserious because it is associated not with unwashed, pot-smoking quasi-Marxist hippies in the minds of the Serious People.

If your formative years are in your late teens to early twenties, and you have to be around fifty to sixty to have a shot at being Serious, then the Serious People all mentally live somewhere between the end of the Viet Nam war and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Isn't that really reassuring?
