Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Libya news seems to have calmed down in the US this week.  I was worried, but now we can get back to the important issues, like drilling for imaginary oil in the Everglades and keeping Sharia law out of Kansas.

none of this stuff has calmed down. Egypt and the nuke plant both warrant high levels of coverage.

Everywhere is putting Japan onto the back burner, except if something major happens, even Reuters is reducing its blog coverage from 4:00 Eastern today.

Countdown to missing blond begins

Since 'Schland is at least as technologically advanced as Japan, a Spiegel Alert review of Germany's plants is not encouraging.

opened the TV news here in France, so it's not gone. With Libya, the European summit, Syria, elections this week-end, it was a rather heavy news broadcast (plus a policeman killed by drug traffikers, and the €133 million lottery tonight)

Not to put too fine a point on modern civilization, but the €133M lottery would have a great effect in northern Japan this evening.

€99M. I'll ask for one for the suggestion. You've got the rest, plus the responsibility to host an all-expenses paid meetup for the top 50 commenters in the next month, quality-wise, not quantity.

(and as rich people know, that meetup cost won't make a dent in your haul.)

And introducing it to Alaska.

I have noticed that the length of the news segment on TV and the size of the front page of the newspaper remain constant, regardless of what is going on in the world.

So if you have three wars, economic meltdowns in multiple countries, natural disasters, side effects of natural disasters, and crazy politics all going on simultaneously, one or two of them are going to crowd the others off of the front page.

Conversely, if you have world peace and a happy mother nature, then the top headline will be about how pretty the flowers are this year, or similar...
