Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.
No matter how many of your links I clicked through, I've yet to find any description of what exactly the 50 book challenge is.  Are the set books chosen for you, or just a general number to set as a target?

50 books in a year doesn't seem like that huge of a target, but then again I read fast.  I think I probably manage round 15-20 a year.  Or so.  Let me think . . . actually . . . what have I read this year?

So far, at any rate

Legionnaire, Simon Murray
When I was a Soldier, Valerie Zennati
Starship Troopers, RH
Effectively re-read Space Cadet for the Xth time, as I'm teaching it
The Wise Man's Fear, Rothfuss
The Hunger Games, Collins
Catching Fire, Collins
Mockingjay, Collins
Strength of Her Regard, Tim Powers
Hull Zero Three, Greg Bear
One of our Thursdays is Missing, Jasper Fforde
Career Diplomacy, by I forget
Management for Dummies
Washington, Ron Chernow
Some Star Trek novelization
Several issues of the Magazine of Fantasy and Science fiction, each of which is 300+ pages
The City and the City, by China Mieville (think it was this year, might have been late last year )
Kraken, by China Mieville (same, can't remember the season well enough)
Some book with a magical airship and gangs of feral kids, whose name I can't remember

I think that's about it, but I may have left off a few. So, 15 to 18 books or so, more if I include the issues of F&SF.  Not too bad, I suppose.
