But a marathon? Say.. what?
Patriots' Day (officially Patriots' Day in Massachusetts[1] and Patriot's Day in Maine[2]) is a civic holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. These were the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is observed on the third Monday in April in Massachusetts[3] and Maine[4] (once part of Massachusetts), and is a public school observance day in Wisconsin[5]. Florida law also encourages people to celebrate it, though it is not treated as a public holiday.[6] Observances and re-enactments of these first battles of the American Revolution occur annually at Lexington Green in Lexington, Massachusetts, (around 6:00 am) and The Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, (around 9:00 am). In the morning, mounted re-enactors (National Lancers - Massachusetts) with state police escorts retrace the rides of Paul Revere and William Dawes, calling out warnings the whole way.
The use of gunpowder (yes, actual gunpowder, like they used to use in guns) points to a very amateur operation. It is rightly acknowledged that people of faith have no monopoly of virtue - Queen Elizabeth II
you are the media you consume.
The other point: It doesn't sound like these were very sophisticated devices, which leads me to think it's probably not international terrorism. Be nice to America. Or we'll bring democracy to your country.
But also, the lack of any acknowledgement or claims of authorship points to a certain "professionalism" in the culprits. guaranteed to evoke a violent reaction from police is to challenge their right to "define the situation." --- David Graeber citing Marc Cooper
It's the domestic ones who keep their mouths shut.
It took -- what, five years to get Rudolph? And McVeigh was only caught so quickly because of traffic-related asshattery. Be nice to America. Or we'll bring democracy to your country.
Rightwing nutters in this country confuse the Civil War with the Revolutionary War.
Marathons are more city things, and if a Rudolph type were going to bomb a marathon (at least one in the states), surely NYC would be the one to expect it to occur at? Be nice to America. Or we'll bring democracy to your country.
