My guess is either militia types or, if Islamic, some nutjob kid from UMass or something who got into radicalism via the Internet.

Or some kind of anti-tax thing - it was tax day, Boston was the site of the tea party, and it's the 100th anniversary (to the year anyway) of the 16th amendment, which gave congress the ability to charge income taxes.

Right.  I keep coming back to Boston and Tax Day and Patriots' Day.  

The other point: It doesn't sound like these were very sophisticated devices, which leads me to think it's probably not international terrorism.

Yeah, but the AQs of the world love taking credit for this stuff.  Hell, the Islamic crazies probably take credit even when they don't do it.  

It's the domestic ones who keep their mouths shut.
