Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

European Tribune - Whatever happened to Ukraine's treasury?
There is only a problem: the recently elected Ukrainian president asserts that his country does not have the money to pay such amount.

And if the "pro-Western" Ukrainians believe that the austerian European countries will pay their gas bill, they may be in for a rude awakening.

One suspects that the Americans will be forcing Angela Merkel to find a way to justify it. This is "national security" not economics...

I have trouble imagining that this arrangement for paying Russia for Ukraine's gas will last past the spring, if it makes it that far. And then how will Ukrainians react if they have to pay, (gasp), full market price for gas. They are already having to import coal from South Africa. Next summer could be interesting.

Austerity does not apply to nationalism, it seems.
