that's what happens when you bad mouth Trump policies in DC.

The Brits are envious. The American Conservative.
Macron, a fierce Brexit critic, has elegantly played on British insecurities by sidling up to the president of the United States. He's Trump's French poodle. But isn't that our prime minister's role? Did Theresa May's tender hand-holding moment with President Trump mean absolutely nothing? It's hard to exaggerate how quickly Brits can go from disgust at Trump to jealousy that France is muscling in on his affections.

Online platforms under fire as EU pushes for ["]transparency["] on search results
CCIA, a lobby group that represents Google and other tech firms like Amazon, criticised the move. "It is hard to see how such last minute change was guided by anything other than politics," Jakob Kucharczyk, CCIA's vice president said.
Quite. The EC is a division of the EU parliament. Which is a political organization of "real" people thought to represent the political interests of "real" people in equitable division of EU member-states' common property and ah wealth.

Too reductive? m'k.
European Commission is the EU's politically independent executive arm. It is alone responsible for drawing up proposals for new European legislation, and it implements the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.

Indeed. In the US it is quite common for constituents and the press to speak of the current occupant of the executive office of the federal government as the leader of < reckless eyeballin' > his party's (EU-Eng. "political group") representatives occuping the US Congress, having been duly elected by "real" people, skulking in the hinterlands, identified by the US Constitution as the Several States.

I admit, the none of the several presidencies (EP, EC, Council) established to date by members of EU gov have attained a similar distinction or palpable constituencies. Therein lies, Mr Kissinger notoriously noted, the charming anarchy of the Union.

You may admit, now, the form that the people's bureaucracy assumes on any given day in no way belies their political purposes.

As it happens I accidentally hit uoon the NBC youtube live feed twenty minutes or so before the dramatic leads appeared at their podiums. The young woman charged with wrangling the herd of guests and press to their assigned seats was strident yet ineffectual. I was impressed by the translator's fluidity until I noticed, I hadn't noticed that Trump was missing an earpiece. Maybe it was very tiny instrument, or the entire event including the corpse's interlocutions was scripted. To emphasize following the elaborate reception for M Macron, business is as usual.

No, although we now know it's Savid Javid, he was always the most likely person.

The current Cabinet is an uneasy balance between leavers and remainers. Rudd was a remainer and so had to be replaced by one. Gove is a leave-ultra and so couldn't be her replacement.

Right now, they're hoping to make it to the weekend with no more hassles and then the royal wedding will blow it all away

"Eroticising and sexualising": Researcher slams Plan Finland over ad campaign featuring pregnant 12 year-old girl
Although Anttila says the campaign got an overwhelmingly positive response in Finland, and indeed won an award, not everyone was equally enthusiastic over the decision to cast a young expectant African mother in a campaign designed for a western audience - Plan Finland explained that the campaign ran in Finland only.

Report: Drug overdose leading cause of death among men under 40 in Finland
According to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction EMCDDA, there were 194 cases of death due to drug overdose in 2016 - an increase of 28 cases on the previous year. The agency has based its findings on data provided by Statistics Finland.

The agency found that men are over-represented in the proportion of deaths caused by drug overdose, which is one of the leading causes of death among men under the age of forty in Finland. In fact, fatal drug overdose cases rank alongside suicide, cancer and accidents as one of the most common causes of death in this age group. The agency reported that more than two-thirds of drug overdose fatalities - some 77 percent - involve men.

[EC] in for clash with EU members over budget plans
The €1.279-trillion ($1.534-trillion) EU budget covering 2021 to 2027 was unveiled by the European Commission Wednesday following months of bickering and difficult consultations with the 27 members that will remain in the bloc after Britain leaves.

EU Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger had traveled through the bloc warning that the UK's exit would create a gap of between €12 billion and €14 billion

predictions from yesteryear ... £96 per capita, "€238.8 billion of unpaid bills", "busted flush"...
with the loss of Britain depriving the EU of one of its biggest net contributors at a time when the bloc is trying to finance new areas such as defense and tackle migration issues jointly.
Spend more to lose more
More money is to come in by taxing digital services, plastic waste and carbon emissions. The Commission wants a 3-percent consolidated corporate tax base to harmonize national rules on tax deductions. It also proposes that member states contribute a 20-percent share of revenues from national emissions trading auctions. Brussels says EU governments should also contribute 80 cents per kilogram of non-recycled platsic packaging waste. ...expected to wash €22 billion annually into EU coffers, or some 12 percent of the total EU budget revenue.

The EU executive is primarily aiming for cuts in two main areas which together account for almost three-quarters of all spending. Reductions will hit the so-called cohesion funds used for development in poorer European nations [and] the EU's Common Agricultural Policy will also be scrutinized for cuts.
