Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

I was writing as an editor front paging a story, not as a blogger questioning the designation. Normally, in an article entitled "US declared..." you would expect to learn in the first paragraph or two who had so declared the USA. If it is the author making the declaration, I would expect the title to be something like "The USA is now acting as a Bandit State." It matters who is making the declaration: The UN, EU, Iran, Iraq, Biden, some academic authority or the author? Just looking for clarity.

I'm aware of that Frank ... it took some time to write this essay about my reasoning. 😊

Impunity

No institution of the United Nations will or could make such an declaration. The United States of America as self-appointed global sheriff has made sure there is no other national jurisdiction or International Court permitted to try a US military for misdeeds attributed during his service.

Nicest symbol I am proud to refer to, is of course, the The Hague Invasion Act, passed by U.S. Congress.

The Hague On the Roll - ICJ Ruling

After the threat to the ICC located in the city of The Hague by John Bolton recently, another top court has ruled against the United States of America. No "Invasion Act" yet conceived to kidnap the judges of the International Court of Justice located in the Peace Palace funded by Andrew Carnegie over 100 years ago.

In Hindsight: The Security Council and the International Court of Justice

The US Armed Forces and US leaders got off without sanctions for years of torture, detention in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also the drone killings on such a scale with deaths of countless civilians are against human right and constitute war crimes.

In the end, when someone is court-martialed, a president like idiot Trump grants a pardon and fires the commander responsible for a courageous act of justice. In all these cases, it's an International Court of Law which should step in ... the US chickened out and live their military and political lives with impunity.

Empires cannot and will not hold the enforcers of their rule liable for the action(s) needed to enforce their rule.

When asked if he had dealt with the Boer prisoners according to international law, Morant replied, "No. We got them and we shot them under the rule of the .303 rifle." He added: "Take us out and crucify us at once. This is what comes of being an empire builder."

Morant was sentenced to be shot, and he died with a defiant smile on his lips. As he stood before the firing squad in Pretoria, South Africa, on the morning of February 25, 1902, he refused the offer of a bandage for his eyes and said, "Shoot straight! Don't make a mess of it."
