Masoud Soleimani, a Biology Professor at Tabiat Modares University has been detained in the United States by the FBI, since October 7, 2018, and has not been charged. He was invites by the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to lead a research program.

Soleimani returned home on December 7 following a prisoner swap with the US, which saw American citizen  
Xiyeu Wang released by Iran.
