Ukrainian plane was 'unintentionally' shot down, Iran says | CBC News | 'Sapere aude'
With the prospects of a potential US-Iran war fading, EU foreign minister during an emergency session on Friday (10 January), said they are willing to maintain the Iran nuclear deal as long as Tehran fullfils its commitments in order to achieve it. [...] "The region cannot afford another war, we call for an urgent de-escalation and maximum restraint," EU's chief diplomat Josep Borrell told reporters following the meeting in Brussels on Friday, that had reaffirmed European commitments preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA). [...] "Iran can never acquire a nuclear weapon, it would be catastrophic for the Middle East," [US Special Representative for [?] Iran, Brian] Hook said. "Now that we are outside of the Iran nuclear deal, we are in a much better position to deny Iran a nuclear weapon. "It allows us to then forcibly respond to Iran's regional aggression and that is what we have done with our sanctions," Hook added. At the same time as EU FM's discuss how to support and preserve the Iran nuclear deal to avoid escalation, US says that they will sanction anyone using the EU #INSTEX mechanism for dealing with Iran. That's US sanctions against EU for having its own policy. Extraordinary. -- Carl Bildt (@carlbildt) January 10, 2020Borrell has invited Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif for talks to Brussels, but a date for his visit has yet to be set.

Amid mounting public fury and international criticism, the belated admission of blame by Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards has squandered the national unity seen after the killing of the country's most influential commander in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq on Jan. 3 [4 GMT] [...]. That mood bodes ill for a parliamentary election in February, when Iran's rulers typically seek a high turnout to show their legitimacy even if the outcome will not change any major policy. [...] Video clips on Twitter showed protesters in Tehran on Saturday chanting "Death to the dictator," a reference to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Reuters could not independently verify the footage. [...] "This tragedy will not be forgotten nor is it easy to overcome for the population under sanctions and pressure not just from abroad but also from the state," said Sanam Vakil, Senior Research Fellow at Middle East and North Africa Program, Chatham House [UK]. "This incident is a stark reminder of the gaping lack of governance," said Vakil. [...] Alongside the parliamentary vote, the elections on Feb. 21 will also choose members of the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body that in future will be responsible for selecting a successor to 80-year-old Khamenei.

The IRGC Commander Soleimani assassination by Trump
or
The IRGC mishap UIA-752 and the cover-up?
Placed in history and the psychology of the masses, ultimate hate between America, Israel and the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, there was NO other way these decisions were made by both the leaders of the US and Iran.
Iran is split in religious leader Khamanei, political Rouhani and the military IRGC. A systematic failure. The "retaliation" was one to calm the masses after the great Satan murdered their military leader, the mishap had to be covered-up, knowing very well the responsibility had to be taken at a later moment in time.

The more I read, the less so credible NATO explanations for any of these events which some intend to form constituents' agreement for unrestricted, punitive discipline for Iraq and Iran governments. Let us not discard yet again age-old presumptions of aggression, foisted by "western" civilization onto the "east." Reasonable observers should always premise their consent to utter failure of negotiated conflict with a question: What then is the objective of violence?
Categorical dispossession.
However, these explanations, erupting from WH propagandists, do not project internal consistency of either affect ("feelings", motive) or effects (means, capabilities) on to the subject (illegal or unlawful war, itself an absurd doctrine) and "persons of interest" (individual suspect perpetrators). Indeed, the introduction of so-called systematic features of these crimes into systemic opprobium ascribed by their "neighbors" to those states is late, too late, an after-thought.
After all the foregoing, suddenly, I am to understand that one commander in the IRGC--or whateverfucking brigade--was so incapacitated by fear, incapable by any means, of differentiating a BOEING 737 passenger aircraft from a missile?
That profound sacrifice of that individual for peace, so-called de-escalation--immediately rejected by US Americans--is unacceptable to me. I refuse to do the work of the deranged vanguard of liars who fervently believe they have inherited the earth from the misery of beseiged "protesters". The hell I'm having that.
