Originally the interviewing FBI agents testified Flynn did not lie, the FBI director said Flynn did not lie and the FBI deputy director said Flynn did not lie.  FBI did not even bother to report the interview.

Then Mueller's team came up with the "Flynn lied" by interviewing the agents who interviewed Flynn, and coming to conclusion that they had enough on Flynn to put pressure on him to get to Trump's dirty laundry.

That is how Mueller has done investigations trough his career -- he doen't go for the big fish directly, but forces the little fish to cooperate. That way he often got the guy he was after, not for the things accused of but for lying to the investigators (because his team always knew more). So, he's your go-to man when there's no actual evidence.

Also as DIA Director Michael Flynn ruffled some feathers ... the intelligence community was looking for payback time.

Trump's Generals, Part 3: Mike Flynn vs. Al-Qaeda

At  the DIA, Flynn's perception of the growing threat posed by Islamist extremists put him at odds with the triumphalist narrative coming out of the White House. With the death of Osama bin Laden and many of his top lieutenants in 2011, the Obama administration argued that Al Qaeda "core" was "decimated," and the threat from terrorism rapidly diminishing. In 2012, the National Intelligence Council had even crafted a draft National Intelligence Estimate -- a document supposed to represent the consensus view of the US intelligence community -- which reportedly concluded that Al Qaeda was no longer a threat to the United States.

Reading the Signs: Trump Has Lost the Will to Be Blond - nymag

After four long years, a new reality seems to be rearing its head -- less garish. ... the 45th president appeared at a press conference ... with an entirely silver mane -- not an orange streak in sight.

... Of course, Trump is relinquishing his hair color far faster than he is the presidency, still pursuing his many frivolous lawsuits,

... As so often with this administration, the apparently trivial, the superficial, the thing you'd never imagine worthy of attention -- in this case, the coiffures of men in their mid-70s -- has become a blinking neon sign of truth.

AFAICT from my K12 teachers' feeds, US con law (electoral controversy) is going to be very, very low on the democracy pole for some years to come.

2020 is the "season" to pivot US social studies to "racial justice" folklore and "false narratives" embedded in curricular materials. A lot of supplementary texts are priming the pipeline of formal and informal "anti-racist" pedagogy--ironically liberated by remote, decentralized ahh teachers' tools and thinly-veiled resentment of obligatory, unpaid "professional development". To be "fair," in a racist state such as US, every race will have its day or month to "be seen" in the light of unappreciated ahh contributions to "white supremacy" a/k/a capitalist enterprise.

Let's recall the excitement worldwide provoked by BLM marches, toppling of heroic slave-traders (particularly Cristoforo Colombo), and Trump's reactionary EO defending federalists' Americana, followed by conspicuous, mostly municipal enactments of "Indigenous Day". Ancient puritan ablutions, dressed as a Thanksgiving Day legacy, is currently taking an annual but more vigorous beating even by trusted tabloid press' standards. Youth leadership in Climate Action, not so much.

< checks watch >

MLK (18 Jan) and Geo. Washington's and Abe Lincoln's birthdays d/b/a President's Day (15 Feb)--squeezing the inauguration of Our Bumper Sticker-- are the next opportunities when children likely will be called upon to study "systemic racism" inherent in commemoration of truth and justice. Over all and under more prosaic circumstances, I've no reason to expect US educators to abandon basic literacy instruction to supervise sullen discourse of partisan events among tweens, embargoed by SARS-CoV-2, little-no telecommunication service, class and "food insecurity".

Fakhrizadeh killing: Iran's security apparatus under scrutiny - DW
The outrage on Iranian social media after the death of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh  has been palpable. Countless tweets and comments posted by Iranians have disparaged the country's intelligence services and security apparatus for repressing students, women's rights activists, journalists and dissidents, but failing to "prevent the assassination of the country's top nuclear scientist."

Fakhrizadeh was killed on Friday in the outskirts of Tehran as attackers shot at his car, before detonating an explosive-laden pickup truck just meters away. The incident marks the third massive failure by the Islamic Republic's security apparatus -- which regularly boasts of having everything in the country under control -- in less than a year.

Up until Friday, it was nearly impossible to even find a picture of Fakhrizadeh online. Widely thought to have been the father of Iran's military nuclear program, he was one of the most well-protected people in the country.

Iran says it has 'a lead' on nuclear mastermind's killers | Ynet News |

The investigation concluded that a remotely controlled machine gun was installed in the Nissan vehicle, and that Fakhrizadeh was hit by three bullets, one hitting him in the spine.

Several seconds after the hit, the firing vehicle exploded to not leave any evidence behind, according to the report. The whole operation took three minutes and did not involve any assassins, Fars reported.

The investigators further found that the owner of the Nissan vehicle left Iran on October 29.

Condoleezza Rice has heralded the war as the "birth pangs of a new Middle East" | TIME |

Operation Cast Lead in Lebanon

Israel's savagery in 2008 ahead of the Obama Inauguration

Israel has never behaved otherwise. Right from the beginning, and even before Israel was founded, Zionist gangs led by future prime ministers were the first to introduce terrorism to the Middle East. Israel and its founders were the first to carry out political assassinations of United Nations officials and Palestinian leaders, as well as other truly terrorist attacks against hotels, railway stations and civilian Palestine government departments.

Israel brought nuclear weapons to the region and its chief innovations have been how to occupy, build settlements, usurp lands and rights by every means, commit massacres against civilians with advanced weapons, and invent new justifications for each crime. These have been its chief contributions to the region for 60 years.

Ex-Trump campaign aide sues over Russia probe surveillance | ABC News |

The suit from Carter Page alleges a series of omissions and errors made by FBI and Justice Department officials in applications they submitted in 2016 and 2017 to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to eavesdrop on Page on suspicion that he was an agent of Russia.

...
In the complaint, Page accuses the FBI of relying excessively for information on Christopher Steele [Orbis Business Intelligence Ltd with Sir Andrew Wood], a former British spy whose research during the 2016 campaign into Donald Trump's ties to Russia was funded by Democrats. It says the FBI failed to tell the surveillance court that Steele's primary source had contradicted information that Steele had attributed to him, or that Page had denied to an informant for the FBI having "any involvement with Russia on behalf of the Trump campaign."

The complaint also accuses the FBI of having misled the surveillance court about his relationship with the CIA, for whom Page had been an operational contact between 2008 and 2013. A former FBI lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, pleaded guilty in August to altering an email to say that Page had not been a source for the CIA.

Ministers reject call for public inquiry into Pat Finucane murder | The Guardian |

Loyalist gunmen forced their way into Finucane's home on 12 February 1989 and shot the lawyer 14 times in front of his wife and three children. The 39-year-old had become prominent for defending IRA paramilitaries, often successfully.

It emerged that Brian Nelson, the Ulster Defence Association member who directed the organisation's attacks, was an agent controlled by the British army's force research unit.

The government promised a public inquiry in 2001, only to backtrack. The original investigation into the murder was ineffective and failed to meet the standards required under human Yrights law, the supreme court ruled last year.

Claims of business fraud are a business opportunity... worth reading in full...

Trump `raises $170m' for `election defence fund' and looks for more

US president Donald Trump has raised about $170 million (€142 million) since election day as his campaign operation has continued to aggressively solicit donations with hyped-up appeals that have funded his fruitless attempts to overturn the election and that have seeded his post-presidential political ambitions, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The money, much of which was raised in the first week after the election, according to the person, has arrived as Mr Trump has made false claims about fraud and sought to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of president-elect Joe Biden's victory.

Instead of slowing down after the election, Mr Trump's campaign has ratcheted up its volume of email solicitations for cash, telling supporters that money was needed for an "election defence fund".

In reality, the fine print shows that the first 75 per cent of every contribution currently goes to a new political action committee that Mr Trump set up in mid-November, Save America, which can be used to fund his political activities going forward, including staff and travel. The other 25 per cent of each donation is directed to the Republican National Committee.

A donor has to give $5,000 to Mr Trump's new PAC before any funds go to his recount account. Still, the Trump campaign continues to urgently ask for cash
