Wiki does not list any Equal Rights amendment in 1972. The reduction of the voting age to 18 was passed in 1971 but the very fact we have to go back 50 years to cite a successful amendment on a substantive (and non partisan) issue itself indicates how difficult it would be to (say) elect a President by popular vote - when that would eliminate the Republican advantage in the electoral college and mean that Bush and Trump would not have been elected.
