Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

btw, the mayor's PR hosted by local news TV network is sketchy: one male, 60's (3/14), one female, 20's (3/16); disposition not publicized. The Loyola U. case (male, 20's) + 6 close contacts is excluded, suggesting BCity adopted MD state "imported case" accounting method? Hogan pulled that out in one of last week's confirmed case notice for MONTANA MAN, who presumably has not been deported from MD.

Organization finds way to help people in need amid coronavirus outbreak

[Catholic Charities'] Our Daily Bread has been able to serve 700 to 800 meals a day, thanks to an army of volunteers.

"They are our workforce. In the interest of protecting their health, we've asked them to stay home and so our nonessential employees who aren't working from home, in some cases have been redeployed to help with critical services," Collins said.

REUTERS twitterbait: California governor says 60,000 homeless in state could get coronavirus in next eight weeks | more mathematical modelling, Facebook notice --while L.A. and S.F. have barely broken with NYMBY barriers to tenant evictions, camp sweeps, or febrile affordable housing construction. 2008 MBS bubble/crash is still alive in CA, land of $450K middle-class HHs.

Newsom announces $150 million to address coronavirus risk for homeless people

Newsom said $100 million in funding will go directly to local jurisdictions -- including Los Angeles -- to boost shelter capacity and increase emergency housing.

An additional $50 million will be aimed at buying travel trailers and leasing hotels, motels and other facilities in an effort to provide space for those without homes to practice social distancing or be quarantined if they test positive for the virus or have symptoms of COVID-19.

With social distancing now the focus of the state's coronavirus strategy and about 108,000 Californians living on the street, homeless encampments present a significant problem for containing the spread of the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development have released guidelines for handling the coronavirus in encampments and shelters, but cities and counties have largely been slow to act.

Both BBC and PBS news did stories on homeless and corona yesterday.  My housemate works the Monday homeless lunch in downtown Boston at the Episcopal Cathedral.  They seem to be the only hot meal for the homeless still operating.  We'll see what happens next Monday but this week they did three rooms of about 25 people each with 5 foot spacing.  Fewer people came than usual.

Shelters have also adopted wider spacing which means fewer available beds.  I think there's one shower now available according to one homeless informant my housemate spoke to today.

This is going to be hell on the homeless, as if they didn't have enough hell already.

Stay safe, be well.  Thanks for all you're doing.
