NY Times is very far to the left, and has been for years.  I know this agrees with your viewpoint, "Don't Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out ...".  But the US is a centrist country.  As a result, NYT has far less influence on the average American voter that in the past.  
Right now it's a toss up as to who will win.  There is a lot to play out over the next three+ months.  But it will be a very close election, imho.  And I expect some shocker events and big surprises.
