Reminds me of travel across Tunisia ... crossing the vast salt plains called Chott el Djerid.

We stayed on the island of Djerba and traveled by bus to the municipality of Tozeur near border with Algeria. Often starting a conversation with the bus driver and companion about Islam and the observance of rules ... indeed there was some room for interpretation because Allah sleeps at night. 😂

High security state at the time and individual travel was prohibited. The bus traveled on a strict time schedule and every city or village the bus had to be on time and was checked by armed guards. Didn't make us feel any safer. Soon afterwards there was a terror attack on a synagogue on Djerba where 28 German tourists were killed.

Thousands of Tunisians have joined the Islamic Jihad and traveled to Syria, funded by the rich Arabs of Middle East.
