3) Travel restrictions sadly could be too late. The first EU case of #OmicronVariant detected in Belgium -- she didn't even travel to Sub-Saharan Africa! This means the virus has definitely escaped the region un-detected. [_link]

In South Africa the Omnicron variant spreads exponentially replacing the Delta variant. Also there is an explosion of clusters across the provinces. Before the new outbreak there was vaccination apathy among South Africans, this will quickly change. Hopefully there is sufficient stock and delivery of vaccines. WHO is alarmed with reason.
