Because the Netherlands misjudged and were late in organizing the booster jab campaign, they needed to go into lockdown during the last three weeks of December ... the most effective method to mitigate the spread of the new Omicron variant 😄

Self explanatory graph of infections per age group and the Covid-19 waves in the nation ... clearly visible the foolish easing in June and extreme Summer surge in July.

The Christmas days and large family gathering will cause a rise in Omicron cases in coming weeks. Already the age group 20-29 has broken the downward trend of the lockdown.

Yeah, the obvious reaction to the discovery of the Omicron variant was to introduce a two week quarantine on flights and a lockdown over the whole continent. Instead we got an industrial-strength gaslighting campaign and are going to let the virus ran completely unchecked.

Austria also had a bit of fortunate timing since were in what they call a lockdown these days. Our government also had mishandled the Delta wave something fierce. But that piece of good luck amid the massive failure seems to be over. Cases had a pretty big jump today and the reasonable assumption is that they will continue to rise tomorrow. Going to get a last round of in person events in before I crawl back into the pandemic bunker.

Yeah ... don't let the virus stop you from having fun in the Alps or shopping in Aachen, or Cologne or Antwerp ... if needed for safe destinations one can fly to Vienna or cross the non-existent Schengen border to get boosted in Northern France ... entrepreneurial spirit of the Dutch.

IS IT A FACT THAT AFTER 10 DAYS YOU CAN'T TRANSFER THE VIRUS ANYMORE?
The most infectious period is thought to be 1 to 3 days before symptoms start, and in the first 7 days after symptoms begin. But some people may remain infectious for longer and this is because typically with viruses, the higher the viral load (the more virus circulating in the body), the higher the risk of transmission through known transmission pathways. So the more severe the illness and the higher the viral load, the longer you continue to shed the virus and are infectious.

If someone with mild disease has been symptom-free for 3 days and they developed their first symptoms more than 10 days prior, they are no longer considered to be infectious.

DO I NEED A DOCUMENTED NEGATIVE RESULT TO RETURN TO WORK?
If a worker has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and isolated in accordance with the guidelines, an employer may only allow a worker to return to work on the following conditions:

  • The worker has completed the mandatory 10 days of self-isolation;
  • The worker may need to undergo a medical evaluation confirming fitness to work.
  • The worker on returning to work then needs to wear a surgical mask for 21 days from the positive test result while at work and practices social distancing and good respiratory and hand hygiene.
