At least 44 people have died, and 103 have been injured in a stampede on Mt. Meron on #LagBaomer. At least 44 people are in critical condition, and a field hospital has been set up at the scene. [_link]

You mean at the village of Meron, in the foothills of Mt. Meron. On the mountain itself there's only an Air Force base.

Correct ... the Jewish pilgrimage is a steep climb towards the site of the tomb.

Mount Meron tomb of 2nd-century sage Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai for annual Lag Ba'omer commemorations.

Apparently it's a stairway as the masses moved up the Mt Meron.

He's wrong. The real reason for the disaster is that Israel has ignored Leviticus 25:8-13. (they should really get Michael Hudson as an advisor instead of Rabbi Kanievsky)

Your source is either wrong or out of date. It wonders as to whether the Jubilee was ever implemented. There's no real reason to doubt it, as the laws were simply copied from Sumeria (the exiles returning from Babylonia) and we know that such debt relief was standard practice there for centuries (for example, there are court decisions against people ignoring it. Since the decisions were written on clay tables, they survived).

Hence my reference to Hudson. You should really read his book, but here's a recent summary on Naked Capitalism.
