This test didn't go as expected, because that day, 17 July 1974, the cloud generated by the explosion didn't reach the altitude of 8000m, as was expected, but instead topped at 5200m. At this elevations, the winds were pushing the cloud westward (towards Tahiti) instead of eastward.
