Through attorney Benny Kuznitz, the officer's family appealed to a military court asking to see the indictment against him.

Family members have also claimed that efforts were being made to delete the officer's social media history from the past few years.

The military also released that the officer had not been charged with espionage or treason, nor had he been in contact with a foreign agent, nor was he the asset of a foreign agent.

The serviceman was buried in a civilian cemetery plot and will not be recognized as a fallen soldier. The IDF said this was the case as the soldier had been formally discharged from the army while in prison and was thus not eligible for a military funeral.

He is also not the first "Prisoner X" in Israeli history.

The case is reminiscent of Ben Zygier, reportedly a former Mossad agent, who was arrested in March 2010 and held under a false alias in Ayalon Prison's secluded Wing 15.

According to reports, his identification was even hidden from the guards at the prison.

A dual Australian-Israeli citizen, Zygier hung himself in December and was laid to rest in a Melbourne Jewish cemetery. Zygier's identity was not released by Israel until three years later.

The intelligence officer who died in #prison last month "was an excellent officer" who while knowingly carried out severe offenses should not have died in prison, @IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi said on Wednesday.
