Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

OK.

It is looking like Delta (B.1.617.2) is more virulent than previous variants and is more resistant to existing vaccinations.  It is also looking like the vaccines, when administered per protocol, are still effective.

Reduced sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 variant Delta to antibody neutralization

Sera from individuals having received one dose of Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines barely inhibited variant Delta. Administration of two doses generated a neutralizing response in 95% of individuals, with titers 3 to 5 fold lower against Delta than Alpha. Thus, variant Delta spread is associated with an escape to antibodies targeting non-RBD and RBD Spike epitopes.

"Titer" means 'the concentration of an antibody, as determined by finding the highest dilution at which it is still able to cause agglutination of the antigen.'  IOW, the cells have to make more of the antibody but the vaccine is still highly effective at preventing Covid-19.
