The failure of the Neocons to overthrow Assad can be blamed on the difference between the two groups of Islamic states. The Salafist Sunni states supported different jihadist groups than Turkey and Qatar with Muslim Brotherhood signature.

The MB were thrown out of Egypt during the reign of Nasser. The were welcomed by Saudi Arabia and the Emirates until they caused internal unrest and were banned. Qatar has a major US military base and will have the full support of the White House. Obama and HRC had very close relationships with Qatar and Turkey ...

The failure to overthrow Assad started the feud with Qatar and the Saudis under Salman. Trump and Pompeo had to intervene to avoid a hot war. Qatar had to pay a $2bn ransom to Islam terror group in the Levant when royalty were taken hostage.

The Abraham Economic Accords has changed the relations in the Middle East. New alliances are being formed.

One of the motives to invade and occupy Syria was for gas from Qatar to find its way into Europe.
