Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.
Winter Olympics. The team biathlon event.
Men on skis with rifles on their backs. Go like hell for 5 km, fire off five shots from a prone position, five km more, five shots standing. Rinse, repeat, hand over to your next compatriot.

A sublimation of hunting, or a parody of war? I find it absolutely compelling to watch.

The third Russian has established a commanding lead, nearly a minute, hands over to the final man. France, Norway and Germany in a gaggle behind him, scrabbling for the two remaining medals (Belarus on their heels, Ukraine somewhere back in 10th)

The fourth Russian arrives to his final shoot... just needs to hold his nerve... Ping!Ping!Ping! he's missed four out of five. The gaggle can't believe their luck, they scoot past him while he's on his penalty lap.

Norway, France, then Latypov the unlucky, for a Russian bronze. I just hope his comrades don't take him out the back and...

Putin is watching (of course). He hesitates, then reaches for the phone. "Pull the troops back from the border."
