Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Most difficult task as successor to Angela Merkel ... who promised the voyage after Brexit and Covid-19 pandemic would make Green Energy and Climate Change a common goal of the global community. Facing existential threat not only for Germany, but also for the European Union. Looking back, the 4 years of Trump were an easy ride. There were enough warning signs, but Brussels and national leaders have a serious issue with tunnel vision.

Hard decisions are imminent for survival of Europe's principle of Four Freedoms and its sovereign economy ...

Unfair to Chancellor Merkel and the modern German State. Cutting down Europe by targeting Germany.

Olaf Scholz: Germany's new chancellor is level-headed and pragmatic

Mr Scholz offered two pieces of guidance: "We are never offended, and we are never hysterical." Mr Holstein, now on Hamburg's state council, found the advice so useful that it remains pinned up in his office under the words: "Scholz's first law". Germans and others who learned to appreciate the calm demeanour of Angela Merkel during her 16 years in office will find reassurance in Mr Scholz, who replaced her as German chancellor on December 8th.

Rants lifted from a famous bar:
"There is exactly zero difference between doomsday nuts who, when the doomed day passes like any other find the most perfect explanations, and these doomsday nuts. Their cults, their superstitions, their superstitions, their blindness to reason are exactly the same. (bjd)

"VT has the following headline: False Flag or False Flag? Ukraine Clears Mine Corridors for Attack on DRP...and Russia? and an article to match.
Presumably, either the US got the Germans to agree that "If the Russians invade Ukraine we will foreswear Russian gas" OR they got fed up waiting for the Russians to attack." (Foolisholdman)

(i.e. keeping money in the Swift pipes while nuking NS2?)

"Since any "broad economic sanctions" would include kicking Russia out of SWIFT they would mean no Russian gas for Europe and no diesel for the US. Because they simply can't pay for it, banks would be technically uncapable of making the transaction. Today the Swedish foreign minister said: "There is an unhealty dependence on russian gas in Europe. We will have to see what the package of sanctions will look like in the end."
