It is apparently easier to have empathy for people far away than for the guy sleeping on the street next door, isn't it? Imagine when a bunch of lunatics decide to fight for Alsace and Lorraine returning to Germany and you get caught in between. If ask by the one of the most powerful army on earth if you want to surrender or die, what will you do? Die for Alsace and Lorraine?
