Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Addition: I don't think it was a civilizational war on 2/2/2022. A rational politician would have admitted that Eastern Ukraine is culturally Russian and that Western Ukraine has its own identity and should remain what it was. But the underground of Eastern Ukraine is too rich and our greedy politicians fell for it.

This, too... would be an interesting diary, but would require supporting material.

Possible subjects :

  • was the decisive Russian intervention in the Donbass war, starting in August 2014, an opportunistic resource grab? Or do similar resources exist on both sides of the border?
  • are these resources important enough for the Ukrainian republic to risk a frontal war with Russia over?
  • or did our greedy politicians (which ones?) skilfully manoeuvre both the Ukrainians AND the Russians into going to war, with the expectation that Ukraine would win, and that they would reap the benefits?

I don't have a good enough understanding of the natural resources of the area to contribute much, but I can learn.
