Japan's Pacifism Is Dead | Sept. 2015 |

In September 2015, the Japanese government under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passed a package of controversial security bills that made it possible for Japan to participate in collective self-defence - that is, to respond militarily to an attack on a 'friendly' country as though Japan itself had been attacked.

The bills overturned the interpretation that Japan's constitution forbids the country from engaging in collective self-defence, a view the Japanese government had stood by for more than 60 years.
