Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying's Regular Press Conference on August 5, 2022

....
If there are no further questions, I would like to recommend an article to you, especially media outlets from Europe and the U.S. including Reuters and Bloomberg. In response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's op-ed titled Why I'm leading a congressional delegation to Taiwan published on August 2, the Chinese Ambassador to the US Mr. Qin Gang published an article titled Why China objects to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan on The Washington Post on August 4.

Ambassador Qin Gang's article is very well written. It provides a very clear and succinct outline of the historical context of the Taiwan question. I'm sure this will help you gain a deeper understanding of the Taiwan question and a deeper and accurate understanding of why China is opposed to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China's territory for 1,800 years.

In 1943, the leaders of China [Chiang Kai-shek], the United States [Roosevekt] and Britain [Churchill] issued the Cairo Declaration, which clearly states that all territories Japan stole from the Chinese, such as Taiwan, shall be restored to China. The Potsdam Declaration of 1945 affirmed that the terms of the Cairo Declaration would be carried out. United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, passed in 1971, recognized that the representatives of the government of the People's Republic of China are the only lawful representatives of China to the United Nations.

Richard Nixon Opens Diplomatic Relations with China

When China and the United States established diplomatic relations on Jan. 1, 1979, the United States recognized in the joint communique with China that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China.

The obdurancy of his host is astounding. One might reasonably suppose *-Eng is his second or fifteenth language and ear buds have fried his brain. Incidentally, "Fireside" is a CRM "solution" suite of software products endorsed by Roll Call and founded by Josh and Jeff, presumably two starving, former Congressional staffers yearning to be free: "Just as Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to bring government to constituents' living rooms during his 'fireside chats,' Fireside gave a new generation of legislators the same power."
