Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Unheard of ... the new Minister of Finance disowning responsibility for the Dutch crisis by a long lecture how Europe was surprised by the invasion of Eastern Ukraine. Weren't the Russian military stationed at least 18 months for exercises at the long stretched border of a thousand miles. Biden wanted the confrontation and the EU Commission and 27 nations folded to the wishes of Joe Biden. #Blitzkrieg

This evening Mark Rutte added his disinformation, we have no choice but to show our solidarity with Ukraine ... it's just as much OUR FREEDOM.

Speech by Minister Kaag at the presentation of the Budget Memorandum in the House of Representatives, 20 September 2022

Mrs. Chair,

'Thoughtless fear, the mind
runs like a pack ass
on scorched-earth-
nothing to ponder now
fait accompli around us.'

These are the first words from the poem Poet Laureate Lieke Marsman wrote the day after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

We woke up that morning in another world. A fait accompli that we would rather not have known. Fear, a great unknown to many in our part of the world,
penetrated the living rooms anyway. Are we as safe as we thought? What does this mean for our freedom?

2022 was not the year we hoped for.

First and foremost for the Ukrainians, who have now spent more than 200 days
fight in a war they didn't choose. And although the tide seems to be turning, the end is far from in sight. We don't know the exact numbers, but there are countless deaths
lamented, people driven from their homes, cities destroyed. Our support for Ukraine is undisputed - and we will continue to do so.
