The real reason, arguably, was that his neocon clique, closely tied to US oil interests, wanted to confiscate Iraq's hydrocarbons, for profit, and in order to break the power of OPEC.

How did Tony "BP" Blair get involved ... and a half-failed attempt by "Royal Shell" Balkenende with side-kick Jaap de Hoop Scheffer -- beyond any merit later installed as NATO SG -- to enter the theater of war in Iraq. The Dutch were blocked by Parliament to participate militarily in the illegal war.

More important for George-Dick-Donald was the "security" of Israel. Ever since the unexpected fall of the Twin Towers, butcher Ariel Sharon with political agitator  Benjamin Netanyahu used their lobbying influence in Washington DC and PNAC leadership urged the removal of Saddam Hussein. The fate a few million Iraqi civilians were discounted in the White House decision for war. The outlier voice of sanity Dominique de Villepin at the UNSC: "War is always the sanction of failure."

Bashing France was actually a smart move from the Bush administration. It was focusing the attention of american people on a small country which was opposed to war, and somehow hid them the fact that it was not France which was against the war, but most of the world.

... When I think that my country, France, was treated and is still treated as à coward country because of this wonderfull and true speech.... I'm very disappointed by the US. I thought you were à big country, but the only thing you can do is to criticize by using propaganda.... Because of this, French army is now considered as cowardice...

Don't miss the conclusion from 14:22, so noble compared to the vulgarity of the US establishment - politicians and media- toward the French at that time!

Bashing peacemakers (progressive left) is a fascist favorite pastime in contemporary politics ...

Well, you walked right into a very obvious trap in both of your posts here, Oui...

Gulf War II = Ukraine war? Well, let's see :

In the case of both wars, there is an aggressor.
In both cases, it is a war of choice for the aggressor.
In both cases, the aggressed/invaded country's government is not without faults.
In both cases, the faults of the invaded country don't go anywhere near justifying an invasion.
In both cases, the government of the invading country put up a barrage of propaganda to justify its actions.

The USA was saving the world from Saddam's WMD.
Russia was saving the world from Nazism.

Both are rather transparent pretexts, and both collapsed for want of any evidence.

One originality of the Ukraine war : I don't recall anyone saying that Saddam was a threat to the existence of the nation of the invader. But Ukraine apparently threatened Russia's existence.

Financial ties between Israeli high-tech company Foxcom Networks (renamed Mobile Access Networks), Rep. Robert Ney and Jewish lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who has been arrested for fraud. In 2001, Foxcom won a $3 million contract to install antennas for cellular telephones at the House of Representatives. US national security interests ... of course.

Specifically, Abramoff allegedly using money from a Washington charity he oversaw to fund military-style programs in the West Bank. Indian tribes donated money to tax-exempt charities, believing they were supporting anti-gambling foundations, but the money was redirected to help a "sniper school" in the West Bank, operated by a friend of Abramoff.

According to congressional documents, Abramoff sought night-vision goggles and a vehicle for the sniper-training facility.

Abramoff also allegedly worked on behalf of an Israeli firm that sought to wire the Capitol for cellular phone use. While leading cell phone manufacturers in the United States settled on JGC Wireless to install antennas in repeaters in House buildings, an Israeli company with ties to Abramoff, Foxcom Wireless, ultimately won the bid.
