Ousted FM Massoudou talks legitimacy to France24 and RFI

Foreign Minister Hassoumi Massoudou, a close ally of Bazoum, said the deposed president was being "held hostage" by the military junta that has seized power in the impoverished West African nation.

Speaking from neighbouring Nigeria, where he sought refuge in the wake of the coup, Massoudou condemned the putschists' announcement that they would prosecute Bazoum for treason, saying the junta had "no legitimacy to try anyone".

"These people who carried out this coup, this corrupt act we're witnessing ... they cannot pretend to have the moral status to put anyone on trial."

GOOG was having a spot of trouble this morning retrieving lesahel.org. Which is inconvenient, because gouv.ne is under maintenance.

The National Council for the Safeguarding ot eh Fatherland (CNSP and the Transitional Government wish to inform national and international opinion that since the events of July 26, 2023, the most fanciful and misleading allegations have been conveyed by certain lobbies in relation to West African political leaders at the highest leverl and their international mentors.
[...]
With regard to the specific case of the deposed president, the CNSP and the Transitional government invite anyone of good will, peace-loving, justice to question the sincerity of his claim to maintain that he is sequestered even that the soldiers never invaded his presential residence and that he sill has all the means of communication.
[...]
In any event, the Nigerien government has to date gathered the necessary evidence to prosecut the deposed president and his local and foreign accomplices before the competent national and international authorities for high treason and undermining internal and external security of Niger following its exchanges with nationals, foreign Heads of State and heads of international orgnizations.
