The back-to-back incidents have historic echoes. In September 1975, President Gerald Ford escaped two assassination attempts, one in Sacramento and the other in San Francisco.

Like with this summer's political violence, the attempts to kill Ford shocked the nation.

Here is a retrospective of what happened taken from the pages of the Los Angeles Times.

See the tumultueus election year 1968 with two political assassinations. I understand in 1975-76 there were two assassination attempts on sitting President Gerald Ford ... he too was not loved by mainstream America.

In the 1960s then too there was hatred between political parties ... Kennedy knew the animosity in Texas and particularly in Dallas against his person. JFK had the courage not to shun dangers and relied on the Secret Service and his security detail. Texas political bosses and Dallas police department were not kind to Democrats (Kennedy's) from Washington DC.

We can't influence the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election one way or the other. The world has been suffering since the Bush-Cheney years ... didn't get any better with Obama-Biden as the reflex inside America was more racism and white supremacy. The old colonial instincts triumphed. The Old South sought revenge for degrading their Civil War heroes .. part of history.

The four years of Trump-Pompeo were disastrous as MAGA survived and was picked-up by Biden-Harris to sanction Iran after failed revival of JCPOA as Joe wanted to please friend Netanyahu and push through the Abraham Accords w/o Palestinians and w/o peace. Joe fell flat on his face. Joe pushed the Ukraine war ... didn't go quite as he hoped for ... Europe in crisis, one competitor left behind with economic damage and years of recovery ahead.

The sanctions on China too intensified under Joe Biden. Blinken an intelligent person but failed on all fronts in diplomacy. America going alone as superpower and becoming isolated as a result. Stronger ties with "friendly" nations and increased animosity with the nations of "darkness."
