The article is devoted to the analysis of the resurgence of nationalism and the breakup of Yugoslavia. This federal-state was breaking the "cultural war" and transformed of Balkan identity. Its collision of cultural identity in a multicultural society.

The analysis allows to specify internal and external factors that influence the resurgence of nationalism in Yugoslavia. An essential factor in blurring multicultural identity was the revival of economic nationalism. At the heart of these political developments is economic nationalism which is the doctrine based on predispositions and policies which prioritize the maintenance and development of the domestic economy, adaptation of the political parties and systems to the changing situation in the EU, country and society.
