Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Failing to see the recovery of 20% occupied territory as a lost cause ... choice is to fight a hundred years guerilla war or come late to the able and agree a settlement as was presented to old Joe Biden in December 2021. The Russian speaking autonomous districts will not be an option to incorporate into Western led Ukraine. The sacrifice is territory for a treaty with security guarantees ... don't offer the stale BS Putin is not to be trusted.

I do not expect groups inside Ukraine to lay down arms as Europe has witnessed during WWI and WWII when Galicia and West Ukraine opted to collaborate with Nazi Germany. The same story for the Tatars of Crimea.

Fighting Joe Biden's proxy war against Russia will not give Ukraine a gold card to become a NATO member state. Joe made an offer with small print.

The Ukrainian government will search for ways to resume communication with the White House mainly to give the country more time.

More time for what?

The years from 2008-2022 were used to deliver NATO arms, instructors and training. Trump-Vance spelled it out quite clearly ... the Trump administration wants the guns silenced, work on economic recovery and a permanent peace. Russia is holding the cards on the battlefield, a line will be drawn and neither will get what they set out for in February 2022. Zelensky was president and bears responsibility for all what has happened ...

From the opinion piece in the Guardian today ...

Even after the White House ambush and now Trump's military pause, Ukrainians are defiant, but want a path to peace

Nataliya Gumenyuk

It wasn't an ambush on your president ... Zelenskyy was ill prepared and unfit to be a partner in peace negotiations.
