Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Had you heard about the killings in Cairo?

so it's from an American reference, but this arguably lies more at Europe's feet than Washington's given the Festung Europa attitude that's  beginning to take root in Europe.

Thanks for drawing attention to Sudan.

"arguably lies more at Europe's feet than Washington's"

I agree. We Europeans should do something about it.
However, I can't resist making a comment at the Christian Right in the US. They were making a big fuss about some kind of "war against Christmas," but don't care much about the wars during Christmas, like Darfur, Uganda and others.

Having said that, Europeans don't care much about refugees either. Most only get concerned when Festung Europe seems to be under attack...

It's not just Europe too, there's a rank racism here on the part Arab nations, with Morocco this can be chalked up to being Europe's policeman, but in Cairo this isn't the case.

"Operation Track Down Blacks"?

My god are they insane?

Absolutely true about the "Christian" Right, do you know about Pat Robertson and Liberia?

We will see a lot more about immigration...and immigrants (migrants, seeking a better life), if 2006. For sure, no doubt.

What we're talking about in Cairo is poltical refugees, but there's the wider problem of immigration.  I was aware that there's a huge problem with leaky boats full of immigrants going down off the Spanish coast, but this comment by one of the founders of Medecins sans Frontier that  "undoubtedly 4000 dead at the bottom of the sea this year" saddened me.

John Lennon has it right, and here's to hope.

Let's hope it's a good one
