Malawi - Bot - Cheney - EU criticism ¶ An Overview and Update

by Oui Thu Dec 15th, 2005 at 07:30:13 AM EST

.
Parliaments across Europe demand an investigation :: the United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Germany, Spain and today the EU Parliament added their voice.

The remarks last week by Condoleezza Rice the U.S. respects the sovereignty of nations and meets U.S. Law and Obligations, is diplomatic speak for the secret service of each country is cooperating in CIA rendition and flights throughout Europe.

CIA Secret Flights: Part 16 ◊ by soj @EuroTrib

Since it was behind closed doors, we'll never know exactly what the German government told parliament, but it seems like the FDP party is not convinced that they got the whole truth. And poor El-Masri - link -, that guy's story is looking ever more credible.

Meanwhile Germany's Stern magazine has reported that it is increasingly likely one of the secret prisons was located in Poland.

I specifically targeted Bot, saying that it's outrageous that he bought Condi's propaganda.

They didn't print my letter, even though it was polite;  they usually print letters like that, even if they're very critical of the government.  Oh well, maybe next time.

(And yes, my written Dutch is just fine, heh.)

do you have a link?

I have sent several letters to Dutch parliament and JP, no replies yet. JP at least has software installed to confirm the message has been received - LOL.

Perhaps there is interest for an EuroTrib lobby at Lange Voorhout near het Binnenhof?

City Council - June 2

Both locations are within city limits of Wassenaar.

I was in Spain those early days of June... Somehow, if you miss the news about these things, you would never know until the next chapter is reached...

It took me 2 years to learn that the entire monarch family in Nepal was butchered by the royal heir in 2001. I was abroad at that time, far away located from press coverages, as so often happens in my field. When I came back, it didn't get any more coverage...

Hey, hey, letters to the editor must be posted as diaries!

I hold Ben Bot still as one of the more respectable ministers of the Dutch government, and applauded him when he took a noticeable critical stance (more critical than many other EU ministers) towards Rice. The more baffled I was when the next day the slate had been completely wiped clean by one single statement, especially one that remains dubious enough, something soj showed in one of his CIA series.

In the meantime, this story has not stopped rolling at all - and that to me is the most important right now.

CIA Flights They Gripe About?
Here's Europe's AGREEMENT for them

The meeting gave the US permission for "renditions" -- kidnapping Muslims off the streets of Europe -- and CIA flights to take them to prison without trial (and, it turns out, to torture). Here's the link -pdf file.

Furthermore, the US has secret CTICs -- joint-venture spy nests -- in over 25 countries!

Condoleeza Rice is right, Gerhard Schroeder is wrong: The secret services in these countries certainly knew what we were doing because they were doing it with us! I will list the countries I know about.

My personal view, I find nothing in the document that leads to extrajudicial rendition and CIA torture flights.

US Learns From Dutch Flood Dykes

A US delegation is in the Netherlands to study the flood control systems protecting a country that lies further below sea level than New Orleans. The 50-member delegation includes the Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, US senators and business leaders.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the US is looking to learn from the experience of the Netherlands. Water management experts will be showing the US visitors its massive system of dams and sea walls.

Blanco to Join Tour of Dutch Flood Barriers

BATON ROUGE (Nola.com) Dec. 30 -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco will join a delegation of about 50 national and state officials going to the Netherlands next month to learn more about that nation's advanced flood protection systems, her spokesman said Thursday.

Headed by U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., the group will tour various sites and meet with officials and engineers who helped design the massive structures and technology that protect the Netherlands from North Sea storm surges. Experts say that parts of the state-of-the-art system could be adapted to helping protect New Orleans from hurricane storm surge.

The delegation also includes U.S. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, state Sens. Ken Hollis, R-Metairie, and Butch Gautreaux, D-Morgan City, St. Bernard Parish President Junior Rodriguez, New Orleans City Councilman Oliver Thomas, coastal restoration experts, port and levee officials and others.

The Netherlands' ambassador to the U.S. invited Landrieu after Hurricane Katrina broke floodgates and levees, flooding most of New Orleans and all of neighboring St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.

They will leave from New Orleans on Jan. 8 and return Jan. 13.
