New Terrorism event in London 22 July Friday

Reports from London indicate that an attempted suicide bombing has been prevented by the shooting of a perpetrator at Stockwell station on the Northern Line. The "Al Masri Brigades" have reportedly taken responsibility for yesterday's attacks via an Internet posting, and menaced Rome and Berlusconi with similar actions. This is too "hot off the wire" to be analyzed quietly.

British Transport Police
said the Northern and Victoria Tube lines, which pass through Stockwell, were suspended because of shooting.

Passengers reported a man -- described as South Asian -- ran onto a train. Witnesses said police chased him, he tripped, then they shot him.

"They pushed him onto the floor and unloaded five shots into him. He's dead," witness Mark Whitby told the British Broadcasting Corp.

Whitby said it didn't look like the man was carrying anything but said he was wearing a thick coat that looked padded.

From BBC radio - the unit was tracking the victim in an undercover surveillance operation. When this person entered the station, he got away by jumping the entrance barrier and was apprehended in a carriage of the subway train. The unit had to act, as it became an emergency and no time left to get the uniformed, armed squad involved. See and listen to the eyewitness accounts of what followed.

Sounds like the victim was under police surveillance.

A Sky News reporter has just stated that plain-clothes SO19 officers followed the suspect from his home address to the tube station where he was then challenged, panicked and was shot after being cornered on the tube train.

According to the report, the police were hoping that he would lead them to the location of the other bombers. It seems to me that this is probably a cover story of some sort - surely if they had tracked the suspect to his "home", it would make sense to contain him there. Allowing him to move on to the streets would make him a danger to the public if he were indeed a suicide bomber - it's one hell of a risk to take.

That sounds completely mad. Any confirmation on that?

BBC have hinted at this version of events as well. I'd be highly skeptical of this "story" sticking.

There is a balance between intelligence gathering and public safety - it's hard to see what intelligence has been gathered, and if the guy was indeed a fully-wired bomber ( which I doubt at this stage ) then the public safety was compromised to an insane extent.

Another event off Harrow road in West Kilborn. More gunshots reported, area sealed off by armed police.
by Colman (colman at eurotrib.com) on Fri Jul 22nd, 2005 at 10:09:43 AM EST
Police are suggesting that they are searching a property in the area and that the presence of armed police is precautionary. There has been just one report so far from someone claiming to have "heard" gunshots who was on Sky News just now; on the BBC, however, another person close to the cordoned area has stated that he heard no gunshots. No arrests have been made according to the police.

Police have just given a press briefing and have released CCTV images of 4 individuals that they are looking for. This opens up the possibility that the person shot this morning was not one of the bombers.

Some interesting points from the briefing:

The device at the Oval was "left" on the Northbound Northern Line train. CCTV image of young Asian male running, wearing a distinctive top which was later found at another location - Cowley Road.

The suspect on the number 26 bus got off at 13.06 - so some time before the device detonated.

The suggestion is that some of the bombers may not have been suicide bombers.

Quotes from Sir Ian Blair: "this is the greatest challenge faced by the Met....the police are facing previously unknown threats and great danger....rumours are sweeping London"

My notes from the press conference. Note that the Harrow Road area in question is just north, withing about 200 metres of Westbourne Park Underground station. Thre are also reports that a remote control explosives controlled detonator (one of those caterpillar track things) was seen at the Harrow Road site. These have modified shotguns to blow open suspected packages. As well as a house being raided, two women and a young boy were taken from an interner cafe on the main Harrow Road. The house is in a side road:

Shot man not connected to bombing

LONDON July 23, 2005 - The man shot and killed on a subway car by London police officers before horrified commuters had nothing to do with the investigation into a series of bombings against the city's transit system.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said on customary condition of anonymity that "the man was unconnected to the incidents of Thursday," in which bombs placed on three subway cars and a double-decker bus failed to detonate properly.

The spokesman also said the man was "probably unconnected" to the July 7 subway and bus bombings that killed 56 people, including four attackers.

    new report suggests ...
explain his fatal error in running ...
what the information does do is ...
It confirms the opinion ... before the police's intent could be assessed.

Too much speculation put forth in opinions and too little evidence. MSM reports and many diaries are advantageous to the incompetent action and reaction of the three undercover plain clothed policemen in the London shooting of an innocent man.

I know of no Met policeman or policewoman who would enter the subway carriage and execute a fugitive who had tripped and was on the ground.

What mindset do you have to believe you are tracking a suicide bomber? How many Pakistani, or persons with Asian appearances, live and work in London. What are the chances you are following a bomber?

Alex Pereira, victim's cousin at Tulse Hill?

Juan Charles de Menezes was not known to the investigation, the housing block was under surveillance. If there was any suspicion towards his involvement with explosives, the housing unit would have been raided.

My only question left: who were these undercover men and what special operations unit did they belong to. What was their training and day's specific order for the stake out.

The stories told to the press by the London Met Police and Ian Blair is inconsistent and does not give any logical answers to what happened.

    .

Juan Charles de Menezes had left his flat in Tulse Hill and boarded a bus towards Stockwell Tube station to go to work.

    1. Jean Charles de Menezes leaves a house under surveillance and arrives at Stockwell station
    2. Witnesses say he vaults the automatic ticket barriers and heads for the platforms
    3. He then ran down an escalator after being approached by up to 20 plain-clothed police officers and tried to board a train
    4. He apparently refuses to obey police instructions and after running onto a northbound Northern line train, he is shot dead
